Wayne Vitale began keeping honey bees on a stretch of beach in Strong’s Neck, Setauket, NY. This area is historically known as “Spy Coast”
During the American Revolutionary War colonist spies lived on Setauket Harbor’s water front, hence the name “Spy Coast”
The bee farm became known as “Spy Coast Bee Farm”, 2007.
At the helm of “Spy Coast Bee Farm” Wayne had a mission in mind. To manage a bee yard to maintain healthy honey bees, learn and educate others. Wayne earned his Master Beekeeper certification through Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, 2019.
Beekeeping at Spy Coast Bee Farm is a practice of proper and modern techniques that cultivate healthy hives. We are involved with the Long Island Beekeepers Club, local libraries and community centers. Our commitment continues to educate people about the honey bee and their fragile environment.
Honey bees are facing worldwide environmental threats. This is a global phenomenon that must be solved.
